1. Acceptance of Terms

By downloading, installing, or using the Legal Exception iOS application ("App") or visiting legalexception.com ("Website"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use ("Terms"). If you do not agree, do not use the App or Website. These Terms are between you and Foculoom LLC ("Foculoom," "we," "us," or "our").

2. Description of Service

Legal Exception provides AI-assisted research tools that surface statutory exceptions, regulatory exemptions, safe harbors, and related legal provisions in United States law. The App draws from a curated knowledge base and uses on-device machine learning to match your queries to relevant provisions.

The App is distributed through the Apple App Store. The knowledge base and features may be updated, expanded, or changed over time.

3. No Legal Advice — No Attorney–Client Relationship

Legal Exception is a legal research tool. It is emphatically not a law practice and does not provide legal advice.

• Nothing in the App or Website constitutes legal advice, legal opinions, or legal services.
• Use of the App does not create an attorney–client relationship, a lawyer–client relationship, or any professional relationship between you and Foculoom.
• AI-generated results are provided for informational and research purposes only. They may be incomplete, outdated, or inapplicable to your specific jurisdiction, facts, or circumstances.
• You must independently verify all results at authoritative primary sources (statutes, regulations, official case reporters) before using them in any legal matter, client communication, or court filing.
• If you need legal advice about your specific situation, consult a licensed attorney in the relevant jurisdiction.

4. Permitted Use

You may use the App and Website for lawful research and informational purposes. You agree not to:

• Use the App or Website to provide legal advice to third parties as if it were your own professional work product, without appropriate independent verification and professional judgment.
• Reproduce, resell, or redistribute App content in bulk without our written consent.
• Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or extract the underlying knowledge base or AI models.
• Use the service in any manner that violates applicable law or these Terms.

5. Service Changes and Continuity

The App and its knowledge base may be updated, changed, or discontinued at any time. You acknowledge that:

• The App may contain errors, bugs, or incomplete features.
• The knowledge base content is subject to change, addition, or removal without notice.
• Foculoom may discontinue the service at any time.
• We welcome feedback via our support page.

6. Intellectual Property

The App, Website, and their contents (excluding open-source components with their respective licenses) are owned by or licensed to Foculoom LLC. Underlying statutory and regulatory text is public domain. Foculoom's curation, annotations, and software are proprietary.

7. Disclaimer of Warranties

THE APP AND WEBSITE ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT. FOCULOOM DOES NOT WARRANT THAT THE APP WILL BE ERROR-FREE, UNINTERRUPTED, OR THAT RESULTS WILL BE CURRENT, COMPLETE, OR APPLICABLE TO YOUR CIRCUMSTANCES.

8. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, FOCULOOM LLC AND ITS MEMBERS, OFFICERS, AGENTS, AND CONTRACTORS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING DAMAGES ARISING FROM YOUR RELIANCE ON APP RESULTS IN LEGAL PROCEEDINGS, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. IN NO EVENT WILL FOCULOOM'S TOTAL LIABILITY EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID FOR THE APP IN THE TWELVE MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM.

9. Subscriptions and Payments

The App offers optional paid subscriptions processed by Apple through StoreKit. Subscription pricing, billing cycles, and cancellation terms are presented at the time of purchase and governed by Apple's App Store Terms of Service. Foculoom does not process payments directly.

10. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute arising under these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in Los Angeles County, California.

11. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be reflected in an updated effective date. Your continued use of the App or Website after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
